Muntean steps down, Turner tabbed as new GM

It with mixed emotions that I write you today.  As of today I have resigned my position with the St Joe Mustangs and accepted the general manager post with the Lake Erie Crushers in Avon, OH.  As many of you know, I am originally from Northeastern Ohio and was just about the only spot that could lure me away from the Mustangs.

The Crushers are a professional team like the Kansas City T-Bones, not affiliated with a major league organization and members of the independent Frontier League.  They play the Gateway Grizzlies, the team that Spiker Helms and Aaron Baker played for last year.

There are way too many people to thank for helping us turn baseball in St Joe into the thing to do in the summer.  You all know who you are.  Ky Turner, who has been with us since our very first game in 2009 will be the new general manager.  He has worked full time for the team for the last 18 months and will not skip a beat in providing you with the quality entertainment you have come to enjoy and expect.  We have a lot of exciting promotions that will be unveiled as the weather heats up and the roster that Matt Johnson has put together should put us back at the top of the standings again this year.

Missouri Western standout pitcher Brandon Simmons will be assisting Ky this summer as the new stadium operations director.  He has a huge job but will be a superstar.

Dan Gerson the owner of the Mustangs will be at Phil Welch this summer as he has been since the onset and is always available for your comments, questions and ideas on Mustangs baseball.

My favorite moment in Mustangs history?  Opening night with the San Diego Chicken is right up there.  Honoring Karl Seiter on US Military All Star night another classic, but my favorite has to be when we won our first MINK crown as Adam Maddox pitched a championship clinching no-hitter in front of a huge raucous crowd.

I also would be remiss if I didn’t specifically signal out our season ticket holders and sponsors, who believed in our product each year.  Thank you all for allowing the Mustangs to thrive!

Thank you again all Mustangs fans.  It has been my pleasure to entertain you!

Rick Muntean

COO / General Manager
