For the third night in a row, the Mustangs’ pitching staff put on dominating performances. In game one, Jeremiah Figueroa hurled five innings, while striking out five leading the Mustangs to a 3-0 victory. While Miles Gully went four innings in the 6-1 victory in game two.
In game one, Ryan Abernathy doubled with one out in the bottom of the first. Joe Koerper drove Abernathy in with a RBI single. The Mustangs struck again in the bottom of third, when Ryan Abernathy hits a RBI single that scored Andrew Standifer. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Standifer singled and eventually scored on a Ryan Abernathy RBI single.
On the mound, Jeremiah Figueroa allowed only four hits and walked two on his way to earning his first win. Blake Kolons worked the sixth and Brett Ash struck out the side in the seventh to earn his first save.
In game two, the Mustangs scored first when Brandon Huske hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Zac Johnson. The Bandits got their first and only run of the game in the top of the fourth on a bases loaded walk. The Mustangs had only one hit through the first four innings, but with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth, Andrew Standifer drove in two to give them the lead. The St. Joe Mustangs added one more in the fourth and then scored two more in the sixth.
Miles Gully worked four innings, allowing only one run. Grant Gavin threw two shutout innings to pick up the win and Jon Pomatto struck out two to finish the Bandits off in the seventh.
The Mustangs open MINK League play tomorrow night against the Joplin Outlaws. First pitch is scheduled for seven o’clock.
