The Mustangs picked up their first MINK League victory tonight. The St. Joe Mustangs defeated the Joplin Outlaws, 3-1. The pitching staff yet again took care of business allowing only five hits.
Joe Koerper gave the Mustangs the first run of the game. Koerper walked and later scored on a Zac Johnson single. The Outlaws tied it up in the third on a fielder’s choice. But the Mustangs’ bats added another in the fourth. With two outs, Ryan Abernathy hit a RBI single that scored Brady Anderson.
Kyle Gehrs took the mound for the Mustangs. Gehrs threw six innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run, but struck out six. Austin Aspegren pitched two shutout innings and Brett Ash closed the ninth with two strikeouts for his third save.
The Mustangs welcome the Nevada Griffons to town tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for seven o’clock.
