The St. Joe Mustangs returned home from a two game road trip tonight and split a doubleheader with the Chillicothe Mudcats. The Mustangs didn’t score a run in game one, but put four on the board in game two.
In game one, the Mudcats pitching staff held the Mustangs to four hits. Robert Beltran went six innings, allowing three hits, while striking out two. Michael Klein came in and recorded the save for the Mudcats.
Trent Kinney went four and two thirds, allowing four runs, on eight hits for the Mustangs. Kinney drops to 1-1 on the season. Blake Kolons went two and a third innings for St. Joe. Zac Johnson went two for three for the Mustangs in the loss.
In game two, Chillicothe scored in the first inning, but the Mustangs fought back. St. Joe scored two in the third and two in the fourth to secure the victory. Lucas Powers went one for two with a RBI single. Joe Koerper and Evan McDonald each scored a run.
The pitching staff for the Mustangs controlled the Mudcats offense in game two. Jeremiah Figueroa went four and a third, allowing six hits, but only one run. Austin Aspegren finished the fifth for St. Joe. Jon Pomatto pitched a scoreless sixth and Brett Ash recorded his fourth save of the year with two strikeouts in the seventh.
The Mustangs are back in action tomorrow night. They take on the Clarinda A’s in MINK League play. First pitch is scheduled for seven o’clock.
