The St. Joseph Mustangs picked up a MINK League victory Sunday night. The Mustangs defeated the Clarinda A’s 5-4.
The St. Joseph Mustangs’ offense gave Brandon Baker the run support he needed. St. Joseph’s offense scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Mustangs added another run in the second to make it 4-0.
The score remained 4-0 until the top of the seventh. The Mustangs added another run to make it 5-0.
Brandon Baker pitched seven scoreless innings giving up six hits, while striking out seven. Reed Morton came in for the eighth, but ran into trouble.
The A’s scored three runs on Morton with no outs to make the score 5-3. Gavin came in for Morton and went 1/3 of an inning allowing one run and Austin Aspegren finished the eighth with the Mustangs in front 5-4.
Brett Ash came in for the ninth closed the door on the A’s comeback. Ash struck out two and recorded his tenth save on the season.
The Mustangs have today and tomorrow off before returning to Phil Welch Stadium on Wednesday. St. Joseph takes the KC Monarchs with first pitch scheduled for seven o’clock.
