The St. Joseph Mustangs defeated the Spooner Bandits 6-0 Wednesday night. The Mustangs picked up another non-league victory behind a strong pitching performance by Miles Gully.
The lefty pitched seven innings of nearly perfect ball. Gully allowed two hits and struck out eight in the victory. He did not allow a hit until the top of the fourth inning. Tanner Smith struck out the side in the eighth and Trent Hill recorded the final three outs to give the Mustangs the victory. St. Joseph’s pitching staff finished with 13 strikeouts on the night.
The Mustangs offense gave Gully plenty of run support. St. Joseph scored four runs in the third inning. The first run came off a Kyle Richards double that scored Francisco Alvarez. Brandon Huske crossed the plate on Trent Hill RBI single to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Richards scored on a Zac Johnson and the fourth run came from a Hayden Steele RBI double that scored Trent Hill.
St. Joseph added runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 6-0. St. Joseph improves to 22-10 on the season.
The Mustangs are back in action tomorrow night at Phil Welch Stadium. The Mustangs take on the Ban Johnson All-Stars with first pitch scheduled for seven o’clock.
