After an hour and a half weather delay, the St. Joseph Mustangs and Nevada Griffons took the field Saturday night. The Mustangs defeated the Griffons 3-2. St. Joseph trailed the Griffons 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning.
Friday night’s hero Mike Sherburne came to the plate with two men on in the bottom of the fifth. Sherburne homered to deep left field and drove in three runs. The Mustangs took a 3-1 lead.
Ryker Fox cruised through six innings for the Mustangs. Fox allowed just one run until the bottom of the seventh inning. The Griffons made it a one run game on a RBI single. The lefty’s day ended with 6 2/3 innings pitched, allowed eight hits, two runs, walked three, but struck out seven.
Austin Aspegren pitched 2/3’s of an inning in relief. The righty walked two in the outing. Jon Pomatto pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pomatto went 2/3’s of an inning and struck out one. Grant Gavin closed out the ninth with a strike out and recorded the save.
The Mustangs travel to Clarinda to take on the A’s Sunday night with first pitch scheduled for seven o’clock.
