The St. Joseph Mustangs took on the Clarinda A’s in MINK League play Tuesday night. The A’s defeated the Mustangs 3-0.
Clarinda scored all three runs in a controversial second inning. The A’s had a 2-0 lead when D’Marco Poindexter hit a double to right field and scored Gavin Golsan. Mustangs’ manager Matt Johnson argued that Golsan did not touch second base on his way around. However, the umpires ruled that Poindexter was out at second and the run still scored. Johnson, along with pitching coach Kyle Jackson, and pitcher Ryker Fox were all ejected after the incident.
The Mustangs were unable to get any offense going against the A’s pitching staff. St. Joseph finished with five hits in the game.
Miles Gully took the mound for the Mustangs. Gully went seven innings allowed eight hits, three runs, walked two and struck out five. Redmond Floyd finished for the Mustangs. Floyd went two innings allowing one hit and striking out two.
The Mustangs sit a game and a half in front of the Chillicothe Mudcats for first place in the North division. St. Joseph hosts the Mudcats Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30.
