The Mustangs looked to get back into the win column against the Southern Division leading Nevada Griffons. On the bump for St Joseph was Utah native Dixon Marble, 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA. Marble was set to face Nevada starter Seth Owens, 2-1 with a 6.08 ERA.
The Mustangs pounced on Owens early, scoring 6 quick runs in the bottom of the 1st. Jacob Richardson doubled to lead off the inning, and was driven in on a Jerry Houston single. Houston came around on a sacrifice by Ramsey Scott. After managing 2 outs, Owens gave up three straight walks to Braren, Alvarez, and Maselli. Kyle Richards then drove in two with a single, followed by an RBI single by Jackson Schnurbush. Richards scored on an error, wrapping up the inning, and making it 6-0 Mustangs. The Mustangs put up another run in the 2nd with an RBI triple from Scott Braren.
The Mustangs continued their offensive display in the bottom half of the 6th inning, scoring an additional 5 runs. They received contributions up and down the lineup with RBIs from Jacob Richardson, Ramsey Scott, and Scott Braren. The Mustangs scored a total of 5 runs in the inning, gifting starter Dixon Marble a 12 run lead.
Marble was electric for St. Joseph. Throwing 8 innings of scoreless ball, allowing only 1 hit and retiring 21 of his last 22 batters. Marble struck out 4 and walked two. He earned the win, and Player of the Game after dominating the talented Griffons.
Seth Owens was on the hook for the loss after allowing 7 earned runs. The Mustangs improved to 21-9 in front of a crowd of 1,061 fans to expand their division lead to 4 games after defeating the Griffons 12-0.
