Mustangs Fall to Chillicothe 7-1

07/10/2015 8:43 PM -
Rain loomed, and the Mustangs had their ace Preston Felgate on the mound, attempting to shut down the Chillicothe Mudcats’ offense. Felgate, 4-1 with a .30 ERA, pitched opposite of Sean Rackoski, 4-0 with a 1.33 ERA.

Felgate struggled early, allowing two runs in the top of the 1st inning after allowing back to back singles, followed by a bases clearing double. Felgate allowed 1 run in both the 3rd and 4th innings, widening the deficit to 4 runs. Felgate didn’t have his best stuff on the mound, but grinded through 6+ innings allowing 6 runs, 4 of them earned. Felgate received little in the ways of defensive aid, as the usual sterling St. Joe defense racked up a total of 4 fielding errors.

The Mustangs scored their lone run in the 5th inning. Kyle Richards doubled and was immediately driven in on a well struck single by Jackson Schnurbush. They were simply unable to heat up their bats as they struggled to obtain 5 hits off Mudcats’ starter Rackoski.

The Mustangs were unable to overcome their shaky pitching and defense and eventually fell to Chillicothe 7-1 after the Mudcats added an insurance run in the top half of the 9th. Preston Felgate took the loss, sliding to 4-2 on the season. Rackoski was the winning pitcher for Chillicothe, earning his 5th victory of the summer. In front of a crowd of 2,217 fans, the Mustangs fell to 26-12 on the year after a rare home loss.
