Mustangs Win in Spectacular Walkoff Fashion, 7-6

07/17/2015 9:12 PM -

In a potential playoff preview, the North leading St. Joseph Mustangs took on the South division leading Nevada Griffons. The Mustangs’ ace Preston Felgate toed the slab against Nevada’s Jordan West.

The Mustangs scored early to give Felgate a lead in the 1st inning. Jacob Richardson led off the inning with a single, and advanced to second when Trent Hill walked. Richardson was driven in when Scott Braren poked a single into the outfield for his 12th RBI of the year. Francisco Alvarez scored the game’s second run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Orencio Fisher.
Preston Felgate made quick work of the Nevada lineup, taking a no hitter into the sixth inning. He exited after 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits, striking out three. It was a bounce back start for Felgate, going into the final stretch of the season.
The 7th inning belonged to Humberto Medina, who struggled to find the zone. Medina allowed a leadoff walk followed by a two run shot to right by Nevada first baseman Cole Johnson, tying the game at 3 runs apiece. Medina gave up two more runs in the inning to give Nevada a 5-3 lead. The Mustangs offense answered with one run in the 7th inning when Jackson Schnurbush came home on an RBI groundout by Orencio Fisher.
The Mustangs rallied in the bottom of the 9th with walks from Schnurbush and Jacob Richardson with only one out. Ramsey Scott dug in with 2 on and 1 out and blasted a walkoff 3-run home run over the right field party deck to win the game.
Ramsey Scott’s walkoff blast powered the Mustangs to a 7-6 win over the Griffons, earning him the honor of Player of the Game. The Mustangs improved to 32-13 on the season and extended their division lead to 2 games in front 1,919 fans. Steven D’amico earned the win as the Mustangs won in spectacular walkoff fashion.
