The Mustangs claimed some bumps and bruises as they grinded out a victory against the Kansas City Monarchs.
The matchup between the Mustangs and the Monarchs was a heated battle early, but would soon quickly turn into what would push the boundaries of blowout as the Mustangs claimed a 8-3 victory.
The Mustangs struck first as they took an early lead with an RBI single from right fielder Derek Hussey. Without giving any opportunity for retaliation the Mustangs extended the lead to 3-0 with a two RBI double from Easton Fortuna. Fortuna would go on to be 3-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Mustangs pitcher Joshua Monson was able to hold the 3-0 lead as he went five innings with no earned runs giving up five hits and racking up three strikeouts.
The Monarchs wouldn’t be held silent forever though as they came out in the top of the seventh and plated three runs. The Mustangs wouldn’t take this lightly as the bottom of the seventh seemed to open up the floodgates as the Mustangs took back the lead and more. As Brady Anderson broke the tie with a RBI single and Kyle Uhrich and Josh Williams tacked on four more runs to bring the Mustangs lead to 8-3. The Mustangs would go on to take another run on in the eighth to complete the second half blowout.
The Mustangs would bring in Nikko Pablo to secure the victory as he pitched a scoreless 2 innings to take the win on the day.
