In with the new, out with the old as the Mustangs bring in three new faces as old ones move on to pursue their pro careers.
Infielder/pitcher Kyle Urich, shortstop Brett Marr, and starting pitcher John Millan announced their signings with respective clubs earlier this week.
Urich heads to the Gateway Grizzlies, a member of the Frontier League located in the St. Louis area. Signing with the Grizzlies as a pitcher, he compiled a 0.00 ERA in five appearances on the mound as a Mustang. In his Grizzlies debut, Uhrich struck out two and surrendered zero hits as he got the save.
Marr signed with the Sioux Falls Canaries, a member of the the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. He finished with a .311 batting average with one home run. He also had 10 RBis in his 12 appearances.
Millan moves to the Vaqueros Union Laguna, a Triple-A Minor League Baseball team which plays in the Mexican League. He compiled a 4.19 ERA in three starts with the Mustangs. He finished his final season with the organization 2-0.
Headlining those members joining the Mustangs this week is right hand pitcher Kyle Wilson as he arrives for a short stint in St. Joe before heading to a New York Mets affiliate.
Drafted in the 35th round of the 2017 MLB draft, Wilson plans to help out the Mustangs in any way he can.
“I gotta throw, get the job done of course,” Wilson said. “Whatever happens happens for the best.”
Shortstop Colton Pogue comes to St. Joe as a member of the Pittsburg State University baseball program.
“I just want to have fun,” Pogue said. I want to win a lot while we’re doing it.”
Outfielder Mitchell Steinhoff returns to the Mustangs after two seasons away.
He is scheduled to arrive in St. Joe sometime in the near future.
