Easton Fortuna pushed a single into a little league homerun in the fourth after multiple unforced errors by the Monarchs opened the door. First by the right fielder on the throw home to get the runner heading home and the catcher on the throw to third to gun Fortuna. The inside the parker would gift the Mustangs two of their five runs and allow them to secure a 5-1 victory.
While the Monarch defense dug a hole, Mustangs starting pitcher Joshua Monson buried them. Monson dominated the Monarchs from the mound as he threw for seven scoreless innings only allowing three hits and giving up two walks.
The Mustangs batters clawed their way to five hits, but what they didn’t do in the batter’s box they more than made up for it on the basepath. No jerseys were clean as the Mustangs compiled an astonishing eight stolen bases. Leading the charge was leadoff hitter Josh Lincoln and designated hitter Drew Standifer, who lit up the dirt for three stolen bases each.
This victory brings the Mustangs to a total record of 16-5 and without this being a MINK League game the Mustangs stay at a league leading 11-5. The first place Mustangs will head back into league play tomorrow as they host the second play Chillicothe Mudcats.
