Last night, the St Joe Mustangs took a break and let the St Joe Tenderloins take on the Sedalia Bombers. Today, the Mustangs returned to action as they stepped away from Phil Welch and took on the Nevada Griffons.
The Griffons didn't put up much of a fight in the last game against the Mustangs. With the high-pressure game in Nevada today, the game should have been called a slugfest for the contest that went down in Nevada.
The Mustangs started early in the first inning, with Carson Schrack grounding out to the first baseman to let Darius Freeman score and lead the game 1-0.
The Griffon's offense showed up in the third to score three runs with two singles, knocking in three RBIs for a Griffon lead in the bottom of the third, 1-3.
The Mustangs decided to take the lead back in the fifth as Frank Gall's single drove in Trevor McCollum. Logan Miller laced a single to drive in Dom Felix. Schrack grounded out to score Jackson Glueck, putting the Mustangs ahead in a 4-3 ballgame.
The Mustangs scored more runs, as Jorden Black hit a sacrifice fly to score Jeter Mauzey, extending their lead 5-3.
In the seventh, the Mustangs tacked on more runs, as Gall's single drove in Glueck and Mason Holton's single drove in Gall, advancing the Mustangs' lead to 7-3.
The Griffons rallied in the seventh inning, reaching on a wild pitch and singled twice to trail the Mustangs 7-6.
The Mustangs wanted to maximize their lead in the eighth, as McCollum's single drove in Black. To put the cherry on top, Felix destroyed a pitch past the outfield wall for a two-run home run, scoring himself and McCollum for a 10-6 lead.
The Griffons went three up and three down in the ninth for the Mustang's fifteenth win.
Your player of the game is Dom Felix, who went 2-4 with a two-run blast in the eighth.
The Mustangs go on the road again, facing the Warren County Crop Dusters tomorrow at Farway Fields at 5:00 p.m.
