After a win against the Chillicothe Mudcats, the St Joe Mustangs return to Phil Welch Stadium to face the Clarinda A's.
The Mustangs played their fair share of games with the A's, ranging from close to blowout, and all ended in a Mustangs win.
Today's game wasn't a pretty game at Phil Welch, where the Mustangs couldn't put the pieces together to form a win.
Starting pitcher Camden Lutz had a close first inning, giving up a double and a walk, but ended the first inning unscathed. In the second inning, the A's got the better of Lutz as they scored four runs off singles, sacrifice flies, and taking advantage of walks. The A's lead 0-4 in the second.
Lutz put away the A's after retiring the side in the third and leaving two runners stranded in the fourth.
In the fifth inning, relief pitcher Landon Reith let Lutz rest and pitched in the fifth inning. An A crossed the plate after a single, leading to the A's leading 0-5.
Reith held onto the run difference in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, only giving up a walk and a hit in the three innings.
The Mustangs were held scoreless by the A's until the eighth inning. It all started with a single by right fielder Frank Gall. Gall stealing second was helped by center fielder Darius Freeman walking. After a double steal, Gall and Freeman were put into scoring positions. Shortstop Mason Holton singled to score Gall and advance Freeman to third. Second baseman Carson Schrack reached first after an error by the A's shortstop to score Freeman and advance Holton to third. Schrack stealing second eliminated the double play, which saved first baseman Jeter Mauzey after he grounded out to the third baseman, allowing Holton to score. The Mustangs trail 3-5 in the eighth inning.
The ninth inning was chaotic. Relief pitcher Diego De Santiago stepped into a fresh ninth inning and gave up six runs on passed balls and singles, putting the Mustangs behind 3-11.
The Mustangs couldn't find a way to score eight runs in the ninth to lose their fourth game to the Clarinda A's in a 3-11 loss.
The Mustangs return to Phil Welch tomorrow to face the Jefferson City Renegades at 7:00 p.m.
