ST. JOSEPH, MO. -- Since 2009, Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph Missouri has been filled with summertime memories of Mustangs baseball. 2024 will feature year 15 for the red and white clad St. Joseph Mustangs to take the field. You can now mark your calendars to see what day and who the Mustangs will play in 2024.
The 8 time MINK League Champions will open in St. Joseph on Wednesday, May 29th, versus the Baldwin City Blues. The Mustangs defeated the Blues in the ‘23 home opener. The 2023 season would feature record setting crowds and the Mustangs winning the regular season MINK League North Division, advancing to the MINK League Championship Series for the 4th consecutive season. The Mustangs ultimately fell short in the final game of the Championship Series, losing to the Jefferson City Renegades, ending the Mustangs run of three consecutive MINK League titles.
The Mustangs open MINK League play on Friday, May 31 versus the Chillicothe Mudcats. The team will close out the first week by hosting the aforementioned 2023 MINK League Champions, Jeff City Renegades, on Saturday, June 1st, for a rematch of last year's MINK League Championship Series. The Renegades will make one more trip to St. Joseph, on Saturday, June 29th.
New in 2024, the St. Joseph Mustangs Alumni- a team that features former Mustangs players from all over the country- will return to take on the St. Joseph All-Stars. The All-Stars are put together by a local wooden bat league, also featuring former collegiate players, among others. Prior to the game, there will also be a Home Run Derby and other events, to crown St. Joseph’s Home Run champion. More information on this event will shared through the spring and summer.
Returning to Phil Welch Stadium will be the US Military WarDogs. The WarDogs are a military team, made up of current and retired military members, and travel across the United States. The WarDogs will match up against the Mustangs on Thursday, July 11th.
In all, Phil Welch Stadium will be home to 26 regular season games this summer. The Mustangs will conclude the MINK League regular season on Saturday, July 20th. The MINK League Playoffs will being on Monday, July 22nd.
