St. Joseph Mustangs Fall to Monarchs 3-0

St. Joseph, Mo. (June 10, 2021) - The St. Joseph Mustangs dropped the first game of a three-game homestand on Thursday night against the Kansas City Monarchs 3-0.

Up until the fifth inning, both starting pitchers held a commanding lead over the plate, totaling 14 strikeouts between the two in the first five innings of play.

Mustangs starting pitcher Micah Diamond walked the first two batters of the sixth inning and both runners would come around to score, giving the Monarchs the lead. Diamond would pitch out of the sixth inning but would not see the seventh. He allowed two hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Former Mustang, Steve D'Amico was on the bump for the Monarchs and pitched a complete game shut-out and earned the win. D’Amico was a MINK League All-Start and MINK League Champion during his time with the team. The starter spent several years with the Mustangs but served in the Navy for five and a half years prior to joining St. Joseph.

The Mustangs fell to 2-4 on the season after Thursday’s loss.

St. Joseph is back at Phil Welch on Friday for Bark in the Park and $1 beer night. The Mustangs will host the Clarinda A’s on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
