The Mustangs fall to A’s in homestand opener

St. Joseph, Mo. (June 23, 2021) - A seven-run eighth inning for the Clarinda A’s puts the game out of reach for the St. Joseph Mustangs. They fall by a score of 17-8 on Wednesday.

The Mustangs allowed five runs in the first inning alone to the A’s. St. Joseph was able to plate three runs in the bottom of the frame, making it a two-run ball game, but the Mustangs were never able to overcome the deficit created in the first inning.

The Mustangs allowed 17 runs on just 14 hits by the A’s. The Mustangs were sunk by free passes. The pitching staff combined for 12 walks on Wednesday and 5 hit-by-pitches. The Mustangs put 17 runners on base via free pass.

St. Joseph was always a step behind the A’s in the homestand opener. The team would score to put themselves just one to two runs behind the A’s but then allow to the A’s in the next inning.

The Mustangs will host the Clarinda A’s again on Thursday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m.. The Mustangs will also welcome fans for Family Night at Phil Welch Stadium. Hot dogs will be just $1, kids run the bases following the game and it is Rally’s birthday! All of Rally’s mascot friends will be in attendance.
