The Mustangs win back-to-back games in walk-off fashion

St. Joseph, Mo. (June 27, 2021) - For the second time in as many games, the Mustangs tie the game in the late innings and then walk it off.

In both games, the Mustangs scored unanswered runs to push past Joplin. On Sunday, the Mustangs won on a walk-off walk to Noah Bodenhausen.

The Mustangs loaded the bases in the ninth, down by one and with zero outs. Back-to-back walks brought home both the tieing and go-ahead runs.

Coleman Fenton sent a ball to the Party Deck on Sunday evening, scoring the first Mustangs’ RBI of the night. This was the second Mustangs home run in as many games, and second at Phil Welch since 2019.

“I didn’t have the turnout that I necessarily wanted in my first two at-bats, but I just stayed relaxed and didn’t let anything carry over from those at-bats,” Fenton said.

Fenton was awarded Player of the Game for his seventh-inning solo shot.

The Mustangs’ big win was due in part to the outstanding starting pitching of Mack Stephenson. He went seven innings, striking out nine and allowing just one run in the start.

Sunday evening’s game ended a five-game stretch, all at Phil Welch Stadium. The Mustangs are off on Tuesday, but will then be back in action for a doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 5:30, gates open at 4:30.

Tuesday is “We love St. Joseph” Night and everyone gets in free! All of St. Joseph can attend the game for absolutely no cost, with a free general admission ticket.
