Three-run homer marks Mustang's seventh loss

SAINT JOSEPH, Mo. -- The St Joe Mustangs lose a heartbreaker in Chillicothe as a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth puts the Chillicothe Mudcats over the Mustangs in a 7-8 loss.


The Mustang's overall record drops to 33-7, while their conference record drops to 29-7.


The game was back-and-forth for both teams the entire game.


The Mustangs started early, scoring two runs on a Jeter Mauzey double and a Jordan Black single to lead 2-0.


With Camden Lutz starting, the Mudcats tied the game in the bottom of the first with a triple and a sacrifice groundout to tie the game at 2.


The Mudcats went ahead in the third with an RBI single to make the score 2-3. Logan Miller put the Mustangs ahead in the fourth with an RBI single to center field, scoring two, putting the Mustangs ahead 4-3.


After Denton Biller relived Lutz, the Mudcats scored another run off another sacrifice groundout and a single to lead 4-5 in the fifth.


The Mustangs pulled ahead in the sixth with Noah Bodenhausen scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Mason Holton to lead 6-5.


Michael Infranca keeps the Mudcats scoreless in the sixth and seventh, giving up a hit and recording two strikeouts.


The Mustangs put on one more run after Black singles to extend the Mustangs lead 7-5.


Tim Teixeira keeps the Mudcats at bay by striking out the Mudcats in order.


Jaren Guck relives Teixeira in the ninth. Guck walked two batters, giving way to a three-run home run by John Angelo for a Mustangs 7-8 loss.


The Mustangs take on the Clarinda A's at Clarinda Municipal Stadium tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
